Daily Kos Blames U.S. for Mumbai Terror

At this point, there's no evidence that global "poverty" caused the attacks in Mumbai. Investigations are ongoing, but the meme that poverty and economic repression is at root of the current attack is picking up steam, for example at the commentary from Fareed Zakaria.

Analysts have long noted that the attacks of this decade have been committed by educated, middle-class terrorists. Mohammed Atta hailed from an educated family of Egyptian professionals. London's 7/7 bombers had access to hundreds of thousands of dollars, most likely through a network of well-funded financial-terror cells. Some research
has suggested that "the stereotype of a terrorist as poor, angry and fanatically religious is a myth."

But note the commentary at
Daily Kos, on the suspected links from the Mumbai attack to Pakistan:

Poverty in Pakistan has aided and emboldened the extremists, so decreasing the poverty must be seen as a key stepping stone to international security and heading off more terrorist attacks. In that respect, the IMF loans to Pakistan must be restructured. Or else when Pakistan is blamed for the Mumbai attacks, it's only fair that we share that blame, too. And don't know about you, but personally, I feel ashamed.
The United States, of course, is the creator and main benefactor of the IMF. So, for the leftists, the causes of terrorism are found in the structure of the international system, with U.S. power and policies held as the causes of the global Islamic jihad. That explains why this writer is "ashamed."

But, again, this is all bull. The leftists blame the IMF and the "causes of poverty" because of their hatred of West. They refuse to place the blame for terror where it belongs: on the evil of the forces of destruction arrayed before us.

Melanie Phillips pins down the true essence of Islamic jihad's war against the West:

The atrocities demonstrated with crystal clarity what the Islamist war is all about – and the western commentariat didn’t understand because it simply refuses to acknowledge, even now, what that war actually is. It does not arise from particular grievances. It is not rooted in ‘despair’ over Palestine. It is not a reaction to the war in Iraq. It is a war waged in the name of Islam against America, Britain, Hindus, Jews and all who refuse to submit to Islamic conquest.
As I noted in my previous post, the left's refusal to espouse a patriotic love of country (and thus to the West) serves only to embolden our enemies. The fight for civilization, unfortunately, isn't just abroad, but is confronting us head on right here at home as well.

DK suffers from what appears to be terminal HPD, or horse's patoot disease. He also has chronic and likely terminal HUTA disease. You can figure that one out.

And, yes, of course, America is responsible for the Muslims being that so-called "religion of peace" and having as their goal to kill anyone not of their Satanic religion.

Yes, we created this problem.

Wrong.

I'll tell you what the United States is responsible for ! We are responsible for being the economic engine of the world and lifting perhaps a billion people in Asia out of poverty in the past decade. Anyone every notice that the Chinese went from bicycles to BMWs pretty quickly.
And we have helped Pakistan too. We
don't need thank yous, just stop killing us.

The terrorists themselves spout this blame America for what they are doing crap - so it naturally follows that the lefties will parrot that line for them.

I agree with Melanie that it's all about submission, and even if a person is to submit - oftentimes that just isn't good enough so off with their head. What the Taliban did in Afghanistan to women isn't mentioned by the left. What Iran and Saudi Arabia (et al.) do to gays, women or anyone who doesn't behave in just such a particular way also isn't mentioned by the left. Also not mentioned by the left is the complete lack of any liberal attitude or philosophy in islam. No science. No freedom. No dissent allowed. No literacy allowed, either.

They're crazy, they're just plum crazy and want to kill someone/anyone and justify that by believing that they are promoting islam. They want to kill you and they want to kill me and the only sane response to that is self defense.

I have often thought the same thing. I guess that commentator at DK really has reason to be ashamed.

OK, given that we are to blame, just how far into Barack Hussein Obama's presidency will we no longer be to blame according to our friends on the left?

Dana, we'll ALWAYS be to blame through the liberal/leftist/Democrat lense through which they view America.

Obama will simply be the first, the "We're the change we've been waiting for. We're the change we seek" who will begin to right the wrong.

And if the Asians and the rest of the world are clever, they will manipulate the Democrats', liberals' and leftists' guilt, in the same way that Obama and Axelrod manipulated the white liberals' guilt to help elect Obama.

first I do not think that islam is evil because of what these terrorists do just as Christianity isnt evil because of say the spanish inquisition! Secondly you fat americans need to stop bleating. We in India have been fighting this form of terror for longer than you all. Whenever we would ask for help as with the Kandahar hijacking your lot were busy getting in bed with the Taliban. Bush Clinton Obama are all the same. We will overcome this terror without doing what happened in Iraq.

Mann,it is the height of absurdity to compare the CURRENT actions of muslims to what was done by Christians centuries ago. The bottom line is that Christianity has evolved, islam is practiced exactly as it was in the seventh century.
